Why We Need Donations
Founded in 1967 as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Galveston County, Bay Area Pet Adoptions/SPCA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on donations and adoption fees to house, feed and provide medical care to the companion animals in our adoption program. Read more about us here.

Planned Giving
An option when preparing your will is to list Bay Area Pet Adoptions as a beneficiary. Other estate assets such as life insurance policies, securities, real estate, art work, etc., can also be donated to us. View the IRA Charitable Rollover as donations to non-profits here. You should contact your attorney or accountant for complete information and tax implications.

Our legal name is the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Galveston County (we DBA as Bay Area Pet Adoptions and Bay Area SPCA). Our non-profit tax ID is 23-7011759. Read suggested language here.

Corporate Support
Many organizations offer matching gifts for employee contributions to the charities of the employee's choice. Through such programs, the financial contributions you make to Bay Area Pet Adoptions will be matched, in whole or in part, by your employer. To find out more about matching gifts, please contact Human Resources at your place of employment.

Corporations can also help out by sponsoring a Bay Area Pet Adoptions event. To learn more about event sponsorship, email us.

Heartworm Treatment
Every dog six months of age or older is checked for heartworm at Bay Area Pet Adoptions. Dogs who test negative are started on heartworm preventative and remain on preventative while they are in our care.

Unfortunately, many of our dogs are testing positive for heartworm. While a heartworm positive dog can be treated if the dog is otherwise healthy, the treatment is very expensive. The treatment cost is based on the body weight of the dog. On average, the cost to our shelter is about $250 per dog. However, the treatment for large dogs is more expensive. Please help us treat our heartworm positive dogs by donating to our Heartworm Treatment Fund. Click here to see some of our dogs currently waiting for heartworm treatment. We accept cash, checks, Visa, Master Card and Discover. To donate online with a credit card use PayPal:
