Heartworm Treatment
Every dog six months of age or older is checked for heartworm at Bay Area Pet Adoptions. Dogs who test negative are started on heartworm preventative and remain on preventative while they are in our care.

Unfortunately, many of our dogs are testing positive for heartworm. While a heartworm positive dog can be treated if the dog is otherwise healthy, the treatment is very expensive. The treatment cost is based on the body weight of the dog. On average, the cost to our shelter is about $250 per dog. However, the treatment for large dogs is more expensive.

Please help us treat our heartworm positive dogs by donating to our Heartworm Treatment Fund. We accept cash, checks, Visa, Master Card and Discover. To donate, click here.
